Alta Quartzite paving has a naturally riven surface and is sawn on all sides. This attractive paving is grey in colour with slight greenish tones and a pale silvery mica sheen along the riven surfaces. Ideal for use on pathways‚ driveways‚ garden patios and internal flooring.

Quartzite paving slabs are exceptionally non-slip and therefore are highly suitable for use around swimming pools‚ whilst being kind to the feet and also having low water absorbtion.

Alta Quartzite paving has extraordinary flexural strength‚ and shock and skid resistance‚ this allows Alta to be used as a remarkably thin flag in heavy traffic conditions with specific mortar and bed design.

Market places and streetscapes are further suitable applications due to Alta Quartzite being considerably hard wearing and stain resistant.

Alta Quartzite was first deposited about 600 million years ago as a quartz sand sediment with very thin clay partings (possibly a seasonal phenomenon). Within 200 million years of deep burial at extreme pressure and temperature it became as it is today - a grey, metamorphosed (recrystallised and thus highly strengthened) quartzite with a slight greenish tone and a pale silvery mica sheen along the riven surfaces.

Alta quartzite has been used practically all over the world, from the USA in the West via Europe - not to mention Scandinavia - to Japan in the East. It can be seen at the Louvre, Paris and Paseo Maritimo, Barcelona and in Manchester, England, it provided the external paving and the internal floor for the Urbis Centre.

Its very high bending strength and ability to adhere to mortar make it possible to lay a thin flag and use it in traffic situations, but do ask us for assistance with the specification needed.
